Teaching Tolerance was created in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center to reduce prejudice and improve intergroup relations. This site provides a collection of free educational materials for teachers and other educational personnel. Tens of thousands of educators use the teaching material in the classroom, which have shown to help students learn respect for differences.
I plan to use the educational materials to teach equality and justice in my own classroom. I like the the classroom activity “Every Family is the Same. Every Family is Different”because it focuses on helping students appreciate and respect different types of families. This activity also provides great step by step intructions on how to teach this lesson to elementary students.
